Consumers Federation Sees Grinch Lurking on Horizon
Wednesday, November 26, 2014WASHINGTON -- More consumers are reporting they intend to spend for the holidays than they did last year, a survey finds.
It was conducted for the Consumer Federation of America and Credit Union National Association and compared projected holiday spending in 2014 compared to 2013. This year, 10% of respondents said they expect to spend more while 33% said they would spend less.
Chevrolet Cruze Named 2014 'Fleet Car of the Year'
Tuesday, November 25, 2014DETROIT -- Automotive Fleet and Business Fleet magazines have named the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze has 2014 Fleet Car of the Year, General Motors Co. announced Monday.
Fleet managers from both large and small fleets and covering every fleet segment selected the Cruze as the winner over 48 other cars. The Cruze is built at the GM complex in Lordstown, Ohio.
Packard Museum to Host 'Office Merrymaking'
Tuesday, November 25, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- The National Packard Museum in Warren will host a new fundraising event, “Office Merrymaking,” on Dec. 18 and 19 in its Legacy Gallery and Great Hall.
The event is meant to invoke a “holiday celebration reminiscent of the workplace Christmas parties of yesteryear.” Held among the museum's collection of Packard automobiles from early 1900s, the fundraiser is open to small businesses, clubs and organizations at the cost of $30 per seat.
Foundation Leaders Urge Giving on ‘Giving Tuesday’
Friday, November 21, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Local philanthropy leaders are encouraging Mahoning Valley residents to observe “Giving Tuesday” by donating to their favorite nonprofit organizations on Dec. 2, the Tuesday that follows “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.”
“While shopping for the people you love, think about a charity or cause that’s close to you,” says Shari Harrell, president of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, which supports local nonprofits and manages donor funds. “Your gift will be highly appreciated there as well.”
Poland Businesses to Celebrate St. Claus Dec. 6
Friday, November 21, 2014POLAND, Ohio -- The Poland Village Business Association will present "St. Claus" from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 6. Participating businesses will serve treats and offer discount and coupons, Rebecca Nelis announced Thursday.
Nelis of Pathways of Ohio Counseling Center is coordinating the event.
Businesses that have hung PBBA wreaths outside will give Santa Surprise gifts to the first 100 families who visit their stores.
