AEROPark Finalist in 2004 Excellence in Economic Development Awards
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration recently named the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber's AEROPark project a finalist for its 2004 Excellence in Economic Development Awards. AEROPark, the award winning, multi-modal business park that consumes 500 publicly and privately owned acres near the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport in Vienna, is home to Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Timken Latrobe Steel and Lexington Connector Seals, says Kim Gonda, manager of marketing and communications at the chamber. The Regional Chamber had acquired a 93-acre parcel to spur private development in that area in 2000. EDA award nominations are made in specific categories announced each year, and nominees are evaluated by a selection panel appointed by the assistant secretary for economic development. This year, 21 total finalists are competing among seven "Excellence In" categories: Community and Faith-Based Economic Development, Economic Adjustment, Innovation, Regional Competitiveness, Rural Economic Development, Technology-Led Economic Development and Urban/Suburban Economic Development. The chamber is one of three finalists in the category of Enhancing Regional Competitiveness, in which nominations are evaluated not only on how effectively they enhanced competitiveness but also to determine how they support long-term development of the regional economy.Winners will be announced at a Capitol Hill reception as part of the EDA National Conference June 8-10."
