CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Clinic announced plans Thursday to build a new $276-million cancer building that will unite all treatment care teams, organized by disease group, on its main campus in one central facility and accelerate “one of the most robust cancer research enterprises in the country.”
The 377,000-square-foot facility will house all outpatient cancer care at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. The building is designed to optimize patient experience and physician collaboration, with clinical space focused on multidisciplinary care and conveniently accessible expanded support services for patients and families, the clinic said.
“The new Cleveland Clinic cancer building will allow us to centralize the cancer care we provide, creating a seamless, personalized experience for patients from throughout the region, nation and world who turn to Cleveland Clinic in their time of need,” said Brian J. Bolwell, chairman, Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Institute. “Whether treated at our main campus or at one of our centers throughout the region, patients will benefit from this more integrated, collaborative approach, which is essential in making progress against cancer.”
Clinical research to develop new cancer drugs and therapies for patients will remain an integral component of the comprehensive cancer center, Bolwell noted. The new building will have designated space for expanded Phase I clinical trials, academics and research.
The seven-story facility, which will be built north of Carnegie Avenue between East 102nd and 105th streets, is part of Cleveland Clinic’s master plan.

Groundbreaking for the Cleveland Clinic cancer building is slated for Sept. 29 with completion projected in early 2017.
TheCleveland Clinic includes a main campus near downtown, eight community hospitals, more than 75 outpatient locations. In 2012, there were 5.1 million outpatient visits throughout the Cleveland Clinic health system and 157,000 hospital admissions. Patients came for treatment from every state and from more than 130 countries.
