Wednesday, August 27, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation would return a projected $126.1 million to 3,800 local public employers under its “Another Billion Back” program -- including more than $6 million to countiesin northeastern Ohio. The program also calls for increased funding for workplace safety grants and the creation of initiatives to enhance the safety, health and wellness of the state workforce.
Under the plan, Columbiana County, with 57 policies, would receive a projected $848,300 in rebates. Mahoning County, with 61, would receive $3,248,200, and Trumbull County, with 69, would receive $2,008,230.
Said Steve Buehrer, bureau administrator and CEO in a prepared statement, "We've targeted lower costs for all Ohio employers and public employers are already paying $70 million less than they were just four years ago. We encourage all employers to consider setting aside their rebate for investments in workplace safety to protect their workers from injury and further reduce workers' compensation costs."
The amount each eligible public employer would receive equals approximately 60% of their billed workers' compensation premium from the 2012 policy year. Of the $126.1 million to be returned, cities would receive the largest portion of the rebate: approximately $46.2 million, followed by school districts, $44.3 million, counties $18.7 million, and townships with $7.8 million.
