WARREN, Ohio -- The Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education will hold its fourth annual "Excellence in Education-Celebrating Our Schools" luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center in Canfield, Stephanie Shaw, executive director, announced Tuesday.
Thirty-five school districts in Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties will be recognized for receiving an A in Value Added, Performance Index and/or Standards Met on the Ohio Department of Education Report Card.
Maplewood Local School District will receive a special recognition, sponsored by Kent State University-Trumbull Campus, for receiving all A’s in three categories, Shaw noted.
The Partnership and Turning Technologies' Turning Foundation will recognize two teachers for their innovative approach to education, the winners to be announced at the luncheon.
Scheduled to deliver the main address is Greg Darnieder, senior adviser on College Access Initiative to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Darnieder began his career teaching the middle grades and established the Department of Postsecondary Education and Student Development at Chicago Public Schools where he designed and executed an assortment of postsecondary, academic, financial and social-support programs.
The partnership is a network of cross-sector community leaders from the education, business, faith-based, social services, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors committed to education.
