YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries recently received $35,000 in grants to assist with building upgrades and renovations for its Belmont Avenue building, the nonprofit organization announced Tuesday.
The agency received $20,000 from the Youngstown Foundation, $10,000 from the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation and $5,000 from the Home Savings Charitable Foundation. The funds will be used for renovations to the administrative, production and retail areas at the Belmont Avenue site.
“The renovations of the three areas will help us to be more energy efficient, improve operations and increase customer awareness,” said Mike McBride, executive director of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries. The agency works with people who are disabled, disadvantaged or have other barriers to employment by offering vocational rehabilitation, employment and other specialized services.
Some of the upgrades include new windows and signage for the Liberty storefront to increase customer awareness; installation of glass block windows throughout the plant to replace old windows, which will increase energy efficiency and comfort of plant employees; and new lighting and a drop-down ceiling in the administrative hallway to increase energy efficiency and decrease noise.
Work has recently begun on several of these projects and will continue into early summer, McBride said.
