White House Task Force Rep to Hold YSU Roundtable
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Paula Brooks, a member of the Bipartisan White House Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, will host a roundtable discussion at Youngstown State University on Resilience in the Face of Climate Impacts. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25, in the Ohio Room of YSU’s Kilcawley Center.
The mission of the task force is to provide recommendations to President Obama on removing barriers to resilient investments and modernizing federal grant and loan programs. The event, which is open to the public, is one of a series across Ohio to gather facts and ideas for the task force report.
Brooks, a Franklin County commissioner, is a native of East Liverpool and earned a bachelor's degree in political science/pre-law from YSU in 1975. She later earned a law degree from Capital University. Appointed by President Obama, Brooks is the only member from Ohio to serve on the 25-member Climate Preparedness and Resilience Task Force. It was created by executive order Nov. 1 (READ WHITE HOUSE FACT SHEET)
Martin Abraham, dean of YSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, will serve as moderator. Speakers will include YSU faculty Dawna Cerney, associate professor and chair of geography; A.J. Sumell, associate professor of economics; and Felicia Armstrong, associate professor of geological and environmental sciences.
This summer Brooks convened similar panel discussions in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo.
"Each stop so far has been very informative," she said. "I am eager to hear about approaches, being spurred on by both the public and private sectors, as well as academia, to ensure a safe, secure environment for our future generations."
Those interested in attending the YSU event are asked to contact Jenifer Miller at 330 941 4635 or via email at jamiller10@ysu.edu.
