Brown to Tour NAMII Today, Call for National Network
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown this morning will visit the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, recently highlighted on the national stage when President Obama mentioned the downtown center as a model for a national network of such facilities during his State of the Union Address.
Today’s visit by Brown, D-Ohio, will be his first to the downtown center since its opening last fall. During the visit, he will tour NAMII and call for the creation of a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation.
According to a news release issued by the senator’s office, Brown “led the charge” for the first NNMI pilot to be in Ohio and his efforts helped secure $30 million in federal funds for the project. In advance of the State of the Union Address, Brown announced he was drafting legislation to create such a network.
Joining Brown at NAMII, where he will also conduct a news conference, will be Barb Ewing, chief operating officer of the Youngstown Business Incubator, where NAMII is based, and Adam Azam, an industrial and engineering systems major at Youngstown State University. Others expected to be on hand include Ed Morris, NAMII director; Darrell Wallace, NAMII acting deputy director of workforce and educational outreach; Martin Abraham, dean of YSU’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and Betty Jo Licata, Dean of YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration.
