ValleyCare Disappointed with Nurses' Contract Vote
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A spokeswoman for ValleyCare Health System of Ohio expressed disappointment that the union representing registered nurses at Northside Medical Center rejected a proposed collective bargaining agreement with the hospital, which the company considers its best and final offer.
Members of the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association/Ohio Nurses Association turned down the proposal in voting Tuesday. The union has been operating without a contract since the prior agreement expired in July 2012.
"Our registered nurses are valued colleagues who play a critical role in our work to provide patients with quality, personalized care,” said Trish Hrina, vice president of marketing for ValleyCare. "While it is unfortunate not to have resolution with the ONA, we are committed to continuing in a productive, mutually beneficial and respectful relationship with all of our employees.”
Last week, ValleyCare announced it would reduce staff by the equivalent of 77 full-time employees at Northside. Last month, the health care system broke ground on a $20 million expansion and renovation project there.
