Ohio Health One Gets Funds to Aid Uninsured
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- One Health Ohio will hire additional employees to help with outreach and enrollment efforts for uninsured Ohioans eligible for new health coverage options though the Affordable Care Act. The new hires will be funded using a $127,937 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, announced Wednesday by U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio.
Formerly known as Ohio North East Health Systems Inc., One Health Ohio operates clinics in Youngstown, Warren and Alliance. HHS awarded $150 million to 1,159 community health centers across the United States. Health centers are expected to hire 2,900 employees nationwide to assist in the Affordable Care Act outreach and enrollment efforts
“I am pleased to announce that this grant will make it easier for Youngstown, Warren and Alliance residents to take full advantage of the Affordable Care Act and get the best health care coverage available,” Ryan said. “The Affordable Care Act will be transformational for our state and country and this grant will help Ohioans understand their options and receive the coverage they deserve.”
Ohio Health One’s Youngstown Clinic was the site of a March 30, 2010 protest by activists aligned with the Tea Party that led to the cancellation that day of a planned forum where Ryan was expected to explain provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Ryan’s office cited “security reasons” for the cancellation of the event, which had been announced to members of the media but not the general public. In subsequent days a Ryan spokesman disclosed that the congressman had received death threats for his vote in support of the health-care legislation.
