Forum Health, Service Workers, Reach Tentative Contract Agreement"
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Members of the Service Employees International Union District 1199 reached a tentative contract early this morning with management at Forum Health Inc., averting a possible strike that could have included medical technicians, housekeepers, laundry workers and some nurses. The negotiating committee of the SEIU and Forum management worked until 4 a.m. this morning and agreed to a single contract for all Forum Health workers who are members of SEIU/1199, the union reported in a news release. As of this posting, neither union nor hospital fficials could not be reached for comment on details of the contract. In a prepared statement, SEIU/1199 organizer Donna DePaul said, "This is a positive step with workers and management coming together to work under one contract, with one set of rules for the entire hospital. Anyone who works for Forum Health should be excited about this contract. This is not just a win for the workers, but for the communities we serve."The contract covers SEIU employees at Forum's Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren and the Northside Medical Center in Youngstown and satellite facilities located throughout the Mahoning Valley. It does not cover workers at Hillside Medical Center in Howland, who are members of AFSCME. Membership of SEIU/1199 is scheduled to vote on the pact April 13."
