YSU Fundraising Hits Record $6.7 Million
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohioi -- It’s only six months into the fiscal year, and Youngstown State University has already set a record for fundraising, the school announced Tuesday.
The university reported receiving $6,667,861 in contributions and commitments from alumni and other supporters during the first six months of the 2012-13 fiscal year. The previous fundraising record of $6,368,422 was established during the entire 2007-08 fiscal year.
“We are grateful to our donors for this tremendous vote of confidence in our outstanding students, faculty, staff and institution,” President Cynthia E. Anderson said. “This is a great milestone. I am overwhelmed but not surprised by the strength and love of the YSU community.”
YSU reported that other metrics had achieved new record levels as well.
“We have 33% more donors now compared to the same period as last year,” said Scott Evans, vice president for University Advancement. “Our annual fund surpassed the $1 million mark at mid-year for the first time in our history. We have a few months to go to add to our totals as the fiscal year ends on June 30,” he added.
Evans stated that the majority of the funds will be received over a period of years. The contributions and commitments were restricted by donors to all areas of the university, including specific colleges, academic programs, scholarships, endowments, capital projects and athletics. Evans attributed the success in fundraising during the last several months to enthusiasm for the vision and leadership of President Anderson, efforts to bolster major and planned gifts, and many new internal practices that have been implemented and are working.
“Philanthropy creates new opportunities for YSU,” he said. “These investments made by our alumni and friends will go a long way in helping us address our current challenges and build for the future.”
