People’s Garden Program Seeks Applications
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Groups within Lowellville, Struthers, Campbell, Youngstown, Girard, McDonald, Niles, Warren and Newton Falls are eligible to apply for 12 grants through the Mahoning River Corridor People's Garden Program.
The projects chosen will be based on based on their innovative design, impact on the communit, project sustainability, and their potential to educate a community on sustaining the environment.
The awards, which are to recognize gardens that serve as community educational resources to residents of Mahoning River Corridor communities, are funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture
All projects must be new garden spaces and can be vegetable, recreational or wildlife gardens. Training workshops will be held throughout February, and a representative of each group applying for a grant must attend at least one.
The Mahoning River Corridor People's Garden Program Training Workshop schedule is:
- Feb. 5, 5 p.m., East Branch Library, Youngstown.
- Feb. 9, 2 p.m., Main Library, Warren.
- Feb. 13, 6 p.m., TNP Office, Warren
- Feb. 19, 6 p.m., Newport Library, Youngstown
- Feb. 21, 6:30 p.m., TNP Office

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. is one of 10 organizations throughout the United States to receive a USDA NIFA People’s Garden Program grant award, officials said.
