New Chief for Ohio Development Agency
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- David Goodman, director of the Department of Commerce, has been appointed director of the state Development Services Agency effective today. He succeeds Christiane Schmenk.
“Chris has done a great job and has served Ohio well during a time of a lot of change in Ohio’s economic development efforts," said Gov. John R. Kasich in a prepared statement. "She gladly took on some tough challenges and I appreciate her work as we transitioned Ohio to a better, more modern job creation strategy. We’re entering a new phase of that strategy with JobsOhio securing robust new funding and entering its second generation of leadership, so this handoff to the next generation of leadership dovetails with that. David’s led very capably at Commerce. He has earned my confidence and he has the right skill set to take DSA to the next level as Ohio continues to get back on its feet and create more jobs.”
Schmenk started with the department as chief legal counsel and became director in July 2011. Goodman began his career in public service as an Ohio assistant attorney general and is a former Ohio senator and representative from Franklin County. Kasich named him to lead the Department of Commerce in January 2011.
