Mycap Offers Info on Workforce Development Program
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership, Mycap, will have two information sessions on its Workforce Development Program Aug. 21 and 28. The classes are free and will be held at Mycap offices, 1325 Fifth Ave.
The program is for residents of Mahoning County ages 18 and older ready to work, seeking employment and in need of job training, but lack the skills employers need. The six-week class teaches a variety of skills such as computer instruction, employment search assistance and competencies that employers want in their employees, regardless of the position.
“We know that finding a job takes time and effort," said Roger Beltz, workforce development trainer, in a prepared statement. "However, with the best practices that we teach, you will be a much more confident candidate who will have the necessary edge over other candidates. What we teach are skills that you need regardless of the type of position. We are sure that what you learn will help you at your next interview or job.”
Mycap’s first workforce development class was launched last fall. Thus far, 19 have graduated from the program and 11 others are near completion or graduating from the summer session Aug. 30.
Like most of the programs Mycap offers, participants must be “income eligible,” that is have a household income at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines:
For a family of one the annual income allowed is $14,363; two, $19,388; three, $24,413; four, $29,438; five, $34,463; six, $39,488; seven, $44.513; and eight, $49,538. For families with more than eight, add $5,025 per person to the $49,538 figure.
“The information sessions give an outline of what is covered in the class and details of the program," Beltz noted. "Some individuals find that the class is something they believe will be of great use to them right now, while others for various reasons need to wait to enroll at a later date."
The information sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 21 and 28 for the Workforce Development Program that begins Sept. 16. Those interested in the fall class must attend one of the two informational sessions. Space is limited. To register, call Kim at 330 747 7921, ext. 1190.
