ODNR Issues 15 New Utica Drilling Permits
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued 15 new horizontal permits for wells in the Utica shale for the week ended Nov. 29, records show.
All of the wells are targeted for the central and southern region of the play where energy companies are having success drilling for natural gas and oil.
Gulfport Energy Corp. was awarded five permits, three in Belmont County and two in Monroe County. Chesapeake Energy secured four new permits, all in Carroll County. American Energy Utica LLC was awarded two permits in Jefferson County. And CNX Gas, a division of Consol Energy Inc., and Antero Resources Corp. each secured two permits for wells in Monroe County.
No new well permits were issued for Columbiana, Mahoning, or Trumbull counties during the week, according to ODNR.
Since 2010, ODNR has issued 1,652 permits for horizontal wells in the Utica shale, 1,204 of which are drilled and 698 in production, the agency reported.
Also last week, no permits were issued in nearby Lawrence or Mercer counties, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
