More Utica Wells for Trumbull, Columbiana
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- BP America Production Co. plans to develop a new horizontal well targeting the Utica shale in Mecca Township in Trumbull County, records show. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued a new permit June 28 for BP to drill a horizontal well on the Zerovich property in Mecca.
It's BP's third permit and the 10th overall horizontal well permit issued in Trumbull County since last year, according to ODNR data. Brammer Engineering Inc., a firm contracted by BP that initially develops test wells for the company, holds two other permits in the county.
Halcon Operating Co. holds four permits in Vienna, Hartford and Warren townships and in Lordstown, while CNX Gas, a division of Consol Energy, holds a single permit in Vienna Township.
There were no new permits issued for Mahoning County during the week of June 24. ODNR typically updates its online postings of new well permits one week after approval is granted.
Also the week of June 24, Chesapeake Energy Corp. continued to gain new wells at a rapid clip in the central portion of the Utica shale.
ODNR awarded four new permits to Chesapeake Exploration LLC: three in Carroll County and a fourth in Columbiana County.
Chesapeake secured a horizontal permit to drill on the Lamp property in Columbiana County's Franklin Township on June 28, records show. It is the 75th well permit issued in Columbiana County since 2010, of which Chesapeake holds 72.
Carroll County continues to be the focal point of Chesapeake's oil and gas development in eastern Ohio's Utica shale, considered the "core of the core" among opportunities to procure liquids-rich gas. Since 2010, 295 permits have been issued in Carroll County and all but 19 are Chesapeake wells, according to ODNR records.
ODNR also issued three new permits to Antero Resources Corp. in Seneca Township, Noble County. Another permit was issued to PDC Energy Inc. in Guernsey County, records show.
Since 2010, ODNR has issued 756 horizontal well permits in the Utica shale until the week ending June 29, 2013. Of those permits, 374 wells are now drilled and 109 are producing, ODNR reports.
In the western Pennsylvania portion of the Utica, Hilcorp Energy Co. secured a new horizontal permit for a new well in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County, on the Whiting farm, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
There were no new permits issued during the week for Mercer County in Pennsylvania, according to the DEP.
