Invitation-Only Shale Forum Takes Place Today
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will join with three statewide organizations to present a program this afternoon to bring together business and community leaders to discuss opportunities and challenges from shale development and ways to ensure a long-term sustainability of economic progress.
The chamber, the Ohio Energy Resource Alliance, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Shale Coalition are jointly sponsoring the Ohio Shale Development: Economic Impact and Opportunities Forum. The chamber is co-sponsoring its event as part of its Youngstown Ohio Utica Natural Gas shale series.
Luncheon speakers include U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, and Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio., Linda Woggon of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Shale Coalition, Rebecca Heimlich of the American Petroleum Institute and OERA, and Tom Humphries of the Regional Chamber.
Panels will feature representatives of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, oil and gas companies, industry groups and the chamber. Topics to be addressed include expectations for 2013 in Utica shale development, protecting workers and the community, supply chair opportunities and API certification.
"In the history of the modern world, nothing has been more fundamental to sustained economic growth than an affordable and accessible energy supply," Ryan said in a prepared statement contained in an announcement of today's event. "In today's world that energy supply must also help reduce carbon from our atmosphere. Fortunately, in Ohio we have both."
“Energy development in the Marcellus and Utica Shale is critical to the future of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio,” added Johnson. “Increasing domestic energy production is a win-win for jobs and economic growth -- not only for the Valley and the state of Ohio, but for America.”
The event will take place at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, Boardman. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. for the invitation-only event, which runs from noon to 4:30 p.m. Th0se invited include business leaders, chamber members, local government officials, economic development organizations, colleges and universities, and oil and gas companies.
