Sales of New Autos Soar in Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new vehicles among dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties soared more than 26% last month, led by robust business for the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze.
The Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio's monthly report shows that area dealers sold 2,669 new cars and trucks in July compared to 2,110 the same month in 2012, a 26.4% increase.
Sales of General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet Cruze topped the list of the most popular vehicles sold, ADAEO reports. In July, dealers reported that they sold 183 Cruze models compared to 113 the same time last year, an increase of 62%.
Other new models that fared well were the Chevrolet Silverado with 177 sold, the Chevrolet Malibu at 172 sold, the Chevrolet Equinox with 109; and the Ford F-150 at 86.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, sold the most new vehicles with 194, the ADAEO report said. Rounding out the top-five dealers in terms of volume were Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 156; Taylor Kia, also of Boardman, 137; Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, 132; and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 107.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were also up during the month. Dealers reported combined sales of 6,342 new and used vehicles versus 5,394 in July 2012, a boost of 17.5%.
