Greenwood Chevy Leads Valley in January Auto Sales
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown was the top-selling new vehicle dealer in the Mahoning Valley last month, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported. A total 2,237 new vehicles were sold in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties during January.
Greenwood sold 143 new vehicles in January, up from 127 during the same month a year earlier, according to the ADAEO sales report released over the weekend. Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, was second, selling new 113 vehicles last month, up from 87 a year earlier. Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, followed with 111 new vehicles sold, more than double January 2012’s 54 units sold.
Rounding out the top five dealers last month were Taylor Kia of Boardman, which sold 103 new vehicles in January, down slightly from 110 a year earlier, and Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, which sold 94 new units in January, up from 80 a year earlier.
Chevrolet models represented the top three models, and four of the top five models, sold in January locally, topped by the Chevrolet Silverado. Dealers sold 163 Silverados last month, more than double the 69 sold in January 2012. That was followed by the Chevrolet Equinox, which also doubled its year-ago performance, with 133 sold last month compared to 63 in January 2012.
Despite an over-the-year decrease in sales, the Lordstown-produced Chevrolet Cruze took the No. 3 slot in terms of new vehicle sales, 111 units sold in January, down from 132 a year earlier. The Ford F-150 had 86 new units sold in January, up from 50 a year earlier. Claiming the final spot in the top five, despite an over-the-year decrease in sales, was the Chevrolet Malibu, 77 of which area dealers sold new in January, down from 91 a year earlier.
Greenwood also led among sales of new and used vehicles combined, with 280 units sold in January, up from 253 a year earlier. Greenwood was followed by Sweeney Buick GMC, with 188 units sold, up from 103 in January 2012, and Taylor Kia, with 186 units sold, up from 166 a year earlier. Rounding out the top five in new and used sales was Sweeney Chevrolet, with 183 sold, up from 143 a year earlier, and Fred Martin Ford Mercedes, Austintown, with 161 sold, up from 121.
Chevrolet was the top-selling new make in January, with 638 units sold, up from 516 a year earlier, followed by Ford, with 335, up from 287 a year earlier, and Honda, with 132, up from 75 the year before. GMC saw 119 units sold in January, up from 72 a year earlier, while Dodge’s 112 units sold last month marched the year-ago figure.
