Goodwill, Sunnking Team Up for Electronics Recycling
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries has teamed up with Sunnking Inc. to expand Goodwill's recycling program, Mike McBride announced Wednesday.
McBride is the executive director of Goodwill.
Under their agreement, Goodwill provides a free drop-off program for consumers and businesses that want to responsibly recycle their electronics and Sunnking performs the recycling.
“Prior to our partnership with Sunnking, there were many electronics we had to refuse because we were unable to recycle those that didn’t sell in our stores, meet safety standards or simply didn’t work," McBride explained in a prepared statement. "This program allows us to expand our electronic recycling program beyond just computer recycling.”
“Officially partnering with Youngstown Area Goodwill adds yet another strong community partner to our growing network of drop-off points,” added Zachary Hussion, marketing & programs manager for Sunnking, in its prepared statement. “Youngstown Area Goodwill is one of several Goodwill organizations in the Northeast now working with Sunnking."
Residents and businesses now have the ability to drop off their used electronics at any one of Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries’ eight donation centers, where they can also request a donation receipt for tax purposes. Electronics are then sent to Goodwill’s main facility on Belmont Avenue in Liberty Township to be packed and sent to Sunnking for processing.
The goal of the program is to offer Goodwill and its donors a free, convenient and responsible way to recycle electronics, McBride said. It is also a “great way” for schools or businesses to recycle computers and electronics as well, he added. Schools, businesses or organizations looking to recycle computers and electronics are invited to call Youngstown Area Goodwill at 330 759 7921 to make arrangements. The revenue from the recycled electronics supports job training and the employment program at Goodwill.
Sunnking Inc., founded in 2000, is New York state’s first EPA R2-certified recycling, data destruction and asset-management company that deals in end-of-life electronic equipment.
