Area New Vehicles Sales Up 15.5% in February
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties collectively saw sales of new cars and trucks rise more than 15% in February compared to the same month last year, says the monthly report of the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio released Monday.
Auto dealers in the Mahoning Valley report they sold 1,766 new vehicles compared to 1,528 sold in February 2012, a spike of 15.5%.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were off 1.1% compared to last year, ADEAO reported. In February 2012, dealers sold 5,659 new and used vehicles, compared with 5,595 cars and trucks sold this year.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported the largest volume sales of new models with 138. Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, said its sales stood at 104 units. Fairway Ford, Canfield, reported 87 new sales. Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, said the showroom moved 76 new vehicles, while Taylor Kia, Boardman, posted the fifth-highest new sales in terms of volume with 69.
The top-selling new vehicle for the month in the Valley was the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with 117 sold; second was the Chevrolet Equinox SUV with 114 sold; and the third-best seller in the region was the Chevrolet Malibu with 104 sold, ADAEO's report said.
Rounding out the top five best-selling models in the Mahoning Valley were the Chevrolet Cruze with 93 sales and the Ford F-150 pickup at 56 new sales.
