Valley Car Buyers Lift Cruze Sales 72% During June
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mahoning Valley carbuyers flocked to the Chevrolet Cruze last month, as volume sales of the Lordstown-built small car topped all other new models sold in local showrooms during June.
Sales of the Cruze soared 72% during the month compared to the same period a year ago, according to the monthly report compiled by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
Dealers reported they collectively sold 164 new Cruze units in June compared to just 95 sold a year ago.
The ADAEO report, which tracks sales of new and used vehicles from dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, shows that overall sales of new cars and trucks in the Mahoning Valley spiked 14% in June.
Dealers in the region report 2,438 new cars and trucks were sold during the month compared to 2,134 new vehicles sold last year, a 14.2% increase.
Combined sales of new and used vehicles were up, too, ADEAO reports, as dealers recorded a total of 5,628 sold during June compared to 5,397 sold in June 2012, a 4.2% increase.
While the Cruze remained the top-seller in the Valley, three other Chevrolet models also turned in strong numbers. Dealers report they sold 152 new Silverado pickup trucks, the Malibu was the third best in volume sales with 136 units sold, and the new Equinox drew 114 buyers in June.
The Ford F-150 proved to be the fifth-best seller with 89 new units sold.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, reported the most new-car deals with 164 sold last month; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, reported 140 sold; Stadium GM in Salem said it sold 119 new models during the month; Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep Fiat, reported 112 new sales; and Taylor Kia of Boardman said it sold 110 new cars and trucks for the month.
