First Place, ACH Announce Donation Program
WARREN, Ohio -- First Place Bank will donate $2 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley for each new Kid’s Club savings account opened from Sept. 9 through Nov. 30.
“As a community bank, we believe it’s important for kids to learn the important habits of saving for their future and giving back to the community,” said Tom Shafer, First Place Bank CEO.
According to the most recent survey conducted by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., more than 29% of all American households lack a savings account. “That means when a financial emergency comes up, they’re more likely to resort to expensive alternatives such as payday loans, which can become a vicious cycle,” Shafer said. “By getting kids into the savings habit, parents can help children become better prepared for their financial future.”
The $2 for each Kid’s Club account opened, or a minimum $1,000, will support health-care and educational programs for local children at Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. Additionally, with each account opened during the campaign, the account holder will also receive a First Place Bank teddy bear. “We want to help kids feel good about giving to others,” Shafer noted. “We hope that the bear will serve as a reminder that they helped comfort another child in the hospital or otherwise in need.” he concluded.
“We thank First Place Bank for involving children in giving to others,” said JoAnn Stock, director of development for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley. “Giving back to the community is an important value to instill in our children, and this is an easy way for them to see that their contributions count.”
More information is available at any Mahoning Valley First Place Bank location or at the bank’s website.
