December New-Car Sales Up 19.8% in Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Car dealerships in the Mahoning Valley sold 2,310 new cars in December, a 19.8% increase over the same month in 2013, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Thursday. Combined new and used sales rose 14.8% in December from a year earlier, to 5,453 vehicles.
In 2014, 73,627 new and used cars were sold in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, a 5.2% increase from 2013.
In December, sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze were 139, 15.75% below December 2013 when 165 were sold, but the Cruze remained the best-selling car in the Valley for the full year. In 2014, 2,457 Cruzes were sold in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties, a 40.1% increase above the 1,744 sold in 2013.
The second-best selling car during December in the three counties was the GMC Terrain, which sold 129. Closing out the top five were the Chevy Silverado with 122 trucks, the Chevy Equinox with 116 SUVs and the Chevy Malibu with 110 passenger cars.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, sold the most new cars in December, 171 vehicles. Rounding out the top five were Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, selling 141; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 122; Taylor Kia, Boardman, with 110; and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 103.
For 2014, Greenwood Chevrolet was the top-selling dealership, with 1,944 new cars and trucks sold. Sweeney Chevrolet came in second with 1,794 and Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Austintown, finished third with 1,514.
