Youngstown Architect Balog to Receive Gold Medal
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Youngstown architect Gary G. Balog has been chosen to receive the Gold Medal from the Ohio chapter of American Institute of Architects. It is the highest honor that the state chapter can bestow on an individual.
He will receive the award Sept. 20 at a reception during the AIA Ohio Valley Region Convention.
Balog, a 1975 graduate of the College of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University, has been an adjunct professor in graduate studies at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Kent State University. In addition, he has served on design award juries and been a guest lecturer on topics such as professional ethics and public school design and has been elected to several offices within the American Institute of Architects.
Balog is the senior principal and chief financial officer in the firm of Balog Steines Hendricks & Manchester Architects, which has offices in Youngstown and Columbus. The firm specializes in K-12 school architecture, college and university buildings and structures for the cultural and performing arts. Among the projects Balog designed for which he received awards are the Ford Recital Hall in the Eleanor Beecher Flad Pavilion of the DeYor Performing Arts Center, Beecher Center for Technology in the Arts at the Butler Institute of American Art, Taft Technology Center, East High School, Liberty High School and the Morley Pavilion in Mill Creek Park.
