Promotional Tour Today for 'American Made Movie'
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Two area companies will be spotlighted today when the “American Made Movie Tour” stops in the Mahoning Valley to generate publicity for documentary that promotes the economic role of domestic manufacturers and consumerism.
"American Made Movie" is a feature-length documentary, scheduled for release Aug. 31, that explores the decline in manufacturing and then makes the case that citizen can make a difference for future generations by telling the stories of several businesses that have seen success despite the ever-expanding global economy.
Local events, part of a 32-city promotional tour, begin at 9:30 when the bus will stop at Starr Manufacturing in Vienna for a press conference, “Be a Part” award presentation “to a local person or organization that has promoted manufacturing,” press materials state, and a tour of the facility. The bus will arrive at the Summer Garden food manufacturing at noon where lunch will be served followed by a plant tour. A screening of the documentary takes place tonight at 7 p.m. at the Regal Austintown Place movie theater.
“American Made Movie” is produced by a company called Life Is My Movie, which states on its website that it “marries images and reality by visualizing content for widespread discussion through non-fiction cinema.” The company’s work includes “An Inconvenient Tax: Break the Code,” a feature-length documentary that “reveals the many ways Congress uses the tax code to achieve political goals that have nothing to do with raising revenue.”
The directors of “American Made Movie,” Vincent Vittorio and Nathaniel Thomas McGill, say their documentary “demonstrates that each citizen can make a difference for future generations by documenting the stories of several businesses that have seen success despite the ever-expanding global economy.”
Said Vittorio in a press release, “Through making this movie, we learned how every American plays an important role in helping our local and national economy succeed. When you come to understand the people behind the products you buy and how the products you use are made, it will have a greater impact on where your money is spent. The movie focuses on the human element in this topic and shows that it doesn’t matter if you are an entrepreneur, student, stay-at-home mom, or a senior citizen, you have the power to transform America’s future and be a part of the solution by just realizing that there is a relationship between what is made and what you buy everyday.”
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber announced the tour bus stop Friday.
USA Today, in reporting on the start of the tour July 5 in Gwinnett County, Ga., said the documentary “touts USA brand appeal” (READ STORY). As the newspaper observed, the film “proposes a nationwide version of support-small-business campaigns that cities have run for years.”
