Panerathon to Take Place Sunday at Covelli Centre
WARREN, Ohio -- The fourth annual Panerathon 10K/2-mile race walk will take place Sunday at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown. The event, which raises funds for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center, is presented by Covelli Enterprises in Warren.
All proceeds benefit the Abdu Center, which opened its doors nearly two years ago at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. The money raised from Panerathon will support Joanie’s Promise, which ensures access for all Valley women to the life-saving screenings, care and services regardless of the ability to pay.
Organizers anticipate 8,000 or more participants will take part in this year’s Panerathon, up from 6,000 last year. Participants can register and pick up their packets beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday prior to the 10 a.m. start time for the 10K and 2-mile events.
At 11:30 a.m., a Kids Run, presented by PNC Bank, will take place. Last year the Kids Run had more than 1,000 participants, and this year 1,500 kids are expected to participate. Parents can register their child for free to participate in the event, and all kids get a T-shirt, medal and goody bag.
A post-race celebration will take place featuring food, and activities for the whole family. The celebration includes PNC Bank’s Mobile Learning Adventure, bounce-a-rounds, face painting, exhibits from the Oh Wow! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Children’s Center for Science & Technology, Mill Creek MetroParks, and other local vendors, free massages for all race participants and O’Charley’s food being sold to raise money for cause.
On-site parking will not be available at the Covelli Centre for this year’s event. The USA Parking garage located at the corner of Federal Plaza East and Champion Street one block north of the Covelli Centre will be open to Panerathon participants on the event day as well as several surface parking lots within a 5-minute walk of the Covelli Centre. A map of available parking can be downloaded at the Panerathon website, where other information about the event is available.
