Mycap to Recognize Volunteers Thursday Night
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Volunteers will be recognized by the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (Mycap) from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center here.
“During the course of the year, we depend on these individuals to assist us with program implementation and other activities, thus allowing us to assist those in need throughout Mahoning County,” said R. Renee Walton, Mycap CEO. “It’s our way of saying thanks and showing them we appreciate everything they do. Life is busy for everyone, but these special people found the time to give of themselves so others could benefit.”
Among the projects and programs over the past year were Community Action Awareness Days in May, job fairs, health fairs, mailings, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, Head Start/Early Head Start, Home Energy Assistance, employment, outreach, the Nuns on the Bus, community parades and office tasks.
Volunteers donate their time based on their schedules. For some that's an hour a month, Walton noted, while for others it might be several hours each month, or whenever a need for a volunteer arises.
Mycap strives to alleviate and prevent the causes of poverty by planning and implementing quality services designed to educate and empower eligible residents of Mahoning County with a goal of moving toward self-sufficiency. The main office is on Fifth Avenue and a satellite office to serve western Mahoning County residents is in Sebring.
