Library Sets Meetings on Strategic Plan
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mahoning Valley residents are invited to share their thoughts on the direction of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County at one of three upcoming meetings next week.
A new strategic plan, My Library 2020, is expected to be completed by the end of this year and cover 2014 to 2020. Earlier this year, more than 2,000 residents submitted their thoughts on the library. In addition, small group community conversations were held throughout Mahoning County.
The three public imeetings are scheduled for Aug. 20 at the Main Library downtown, Aug. 21 at the Austintown branch, and Aug. 22 at the Newport branch. All three meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
The library system “needs to identify our North Star,” said Heidi M. Daniel, library director. “This plan should be a roadmap, a living, breathing document, because we should be prepared for detours, twists and turns over the next six years as situations change.”
Along with public input, the planning process includes evaluating all library facilities and studying service area data and projections, trends and demographics. The planning process will include Daniel, several library trustees and library staff, along with representatives from the community. The library board of trustees is expected to vote on the plan in December.
