FBI Agent to Lecture on 'Active Shooter’ Situations
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Todd Werth, supervisory special agent with the FBI, will present “Active Shooter/Threats: Civilian Response in the Workplace, Schools, and Other Public Places” at 3:30 p.m. next Monday at Youngstown State University. The presentation is part of its Alumni Lecture Series.
The two-hour presentation will touch on what individuals who are not law enforcement can do when someone starts shooting at bystanders inside a school, workplace or other public place.
Werth will discuss measures people can take to prepare themselves before such an incident, and if confronted with such a threat, steps they can take to reduce the danger they’re in as much as possible.
Werth, with the FBI 15 years, supervises the FBI Violent Crime, Drugs, Gangs and Organized Crime programs in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties. He also supervises the Painesville Resident Agency, which covers the above programs in addition to terrorism, civil rights and white-collar crime investigations for Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties. For the past three years, he has coordinated training for employees, area law enforcement and the public for the Cleveland FBI. He also served as the Cleveland division’s principal tactical instructor, one area of his responsibilities being the instruction related to active-shooter threats.
The lecture will be held in Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center The cost is $5 for members of the YSU Alumni Asssociation and $7 for others. (There is no charge for students). Hors d’oeuvres are included. To attend, respond to Heather Belgin at 330 941 1591 by Thursday.
