'Cookie Table & Cocktails' to Benefit History Center
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Cookies, anyone? Your choice from among at least 60 varieties.
At the new Tyler History Center this Saturday night, 42 amateur and 18 professional cookie bakers from throughout the Mahoning Valley will bring their tasty treats to the "Cookie Table & Cocktails" benefit.
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is taking the Valley’s cookie table tradition and turning it into a fun and festive fundraiser to benefit new exhibits and educational programs at the center, 325 W. Federal St. Sponsored by D’Vino Ristorante, which recently opened in the lower level of Alberini’s in Niles, the event promises all the fun of a wedding reception without the wedding, says executive director Bill Lawson.
Guests can dance to music performed by the John Reese Project, sample any number of appetizers and beverages, view a collection of historic wedding attire, place bids on artwork, baskets and goodies in the silent auction, and, of course, taste a wide selection of cookies, biscotti, pretzels, pizzelles, small cupcakes, and more. Prizes will be awarded to the top cookie bakers in both the amateur and professional categories.
“Over the past two years, MVHS has been transforming the historic Harry Burt/Ross Radio Building in downtown Youngstown into the Tyler History Center," said Frank Rulli, event chairman. "Now that the renovations are completed, we thought 'Cookie Table & Cocktails' would be a unique way for the public to see the results, especially the beautiful ballroom and impressive gallery spaces.”
The historical society launched a $6 million capital campaign in 2008 to create the Tyler History Center because the Arms Family Museum of Local History on Wick Avenue lacks the space needed for archives storage and community outreach. So far, $4.6 million has been raised, but $1.2 million is still needed to construct and install state-of-the-art exhibits and develop new educational programs that will inform 25,000-plus visitors a year.
The benefit is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased at the door or by calling the society at 330 743 2589. Free parking is available in the lot next to the Tyler History Center.
Wedding Dance sponsor is WKBN/WYTV/Fox/MyYTV. Bouquet sponsors include York Mahoning Mechanical Contractors, Rulli Brothers, Magnuson Grand Hotel, and Panera Bread/Covelli Enterprises. Honeymoon sponsors are Jimmy’s Italian Specialties, Saratoga Restaurant & Catering, Metro Monthly, Rebecca Rogers & James Swager, Jeanne Deibel Tyler, Charlotte Gelhaar, and Paul & Sallie Tod Dutton
