Community Center Tops CommunIT Balloting
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Methodist Community Center in Warren topped the list of vote getters in online balloting for the CommunIT Tech Giveaway, sponsored by DRS LLC and Palo Creative. The community center received 151,508 votes before polling closed Aug. 18.
Placing second in the voting was Gateways to Better Living in Youngstown with 118,077 votes. Rounding out the list are the Youngstown Business Incubator (116,856), the Girard Multigenerational Center (70,733), and Beatitude House (51,329). A total 582,769 votes were cast.
A six-member selection committee comprised of local leaders from public and private industries will select the winner of an information technology upgrade by DRS, valued at $30,000 in technology equipment and services, and a website makeover donated by PALO Creative.
Committee judges include:
- Mike Meloy, CEO, Data Recovery Services (DRS) LLC
- Carl Gordulic, president and chief operating officer, DRS LLC
- Rob Palowitz, president and chief marketing officer, PALO Creative
- John McNally, Youngstown mayoral candidate
- Dr. Patrick J. Bateman, associate professor, YSU Williamson College of Business Administration and keynote speaker at Northeast Ohio Technology Summit
- Mike Case, reporter, WFMJ-TV
The winner of the package will be announced the first week of September. The four other finalists will each receive an in-depth analysis of their technology systems and a technology roadmap to guide future efforts, valued at $4,000. A group of DRS employees selected the original 21 contenders from a pool of Ohio-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that registered at the Northeast Ohio Technology Summit May 9 at the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration.
“The response to the CommunIT initiative has been quite incredible -- and they have selected an extraordinary group of organizations. No doubt the public’s great response is due to the passion for, and need of, these local communities having these organizations succeed and continuing to contribute to the Valley area,” YSU’s Bateman said. “And in today’s landscape, these organizations and their supporters undoubtedly understand the critical role technology plays in this ultimate success. Kudos to everyone that voted to support their organization, and for DRS for supporting the area in this incredibly valuable way.”
