Former NBA Pro Brings Recovery Message to YSU
Monday, January 28, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Former pro basketball player Chris Herren brought his message of recovery from drug and alcohol abuse before an audience Sunday at Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center.
Herren, whose promising career as a guard in the National Basketball Association was derailed by his drug and alcohol abuse after just two seasons, now travels the country telling his story and giving a message of warning and hope to student athletes and others. His appearance was co-sponsored by Meridian Community Care and YSU.

New-Vehicle Retail Sales Ahead of Expectations
Monday, January 28, 2013WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – This month’s new-vehicle sales rate is off to a strong start in 2013, with the highest retail selling rate in January in five years, reports J.D. Power and Associates.
Sales are projected to come in at 812,600 vehicles, which represents a seasonally adjusted annualized rate of 12.9 million units -- well ahead of the expected 12.4-million-unit annual level for 2013.

GE, Parker Shutdowns to Cost Valley 261 Jobs
Friday, January 25, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The cities of Youngstown and Warren were hit Thursday with bad news from segments of its industrial base, costing more than 260 Mahoning Valley workers their jobs.
Officials with General Electric announced plans Thursday to close its sole remaining area plant in the Valley, the Ohio Lamp Plant in Warren. The closing, which is expected to take place in early 2014, will result in 198 full-time workers losing their jobs.

She replaces Patricia Rose, who retired Jan. 1 after serving 18 years as the nonprofit agency's president.
