Tuesday, April 13, 2004"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Teens are concerned with purchasing MP3 players, cell phones and apparel with the latest labels, but they also realize economic realities, including the importance of achieving financial independence, according to a poll by Junior Achievement and The Allstate Foundation.Although teens are not as heavily impacted by the economy as their parents or guardians, survey results indicate that teens wield strong influence on household buying decisions (67.6%) and more than a third receive an allowance (35%).

Tuesday, April 13, 2004PITTSBURGH -- U.S. business owners are more optimistic about the next six months based on rising expectations for sales, profits and hiring new employees, according to the most recent PNC Economic Outlook survey, commissioned by The PNC Financial Services Group Inc. Nationally, 88% of business owners are optimistic about their business performance, with 21% planning to add full-time employees during the next six months -- a 3% increase from last fall.
Consultants Begin Assessment of Youngstown Air Base

YSU Rec Center Groundbreaking Set for April 19
Tuesday, April 13, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Construction trailers and equipment will soon be filling the parking lot outside DeBartolo Hall at Youngstown State University as work begins on the campus' new $12.1 million Andrews Recreation and Wellness Center.The formal groundbreaking ceremony for the 65,000-square-foot facility is 2 p.m. April 19 in the F-2 parking lot on the north side of DeBartolo Hall. The construction is permanently closing the F-2 lot, which has about 130 spaces reserved for faculty and staff.
Ohio Awards $2 Million in Research Commercialization Grants

The awards are part of the governor's Third Frontier Project."The Research Commercialization Grant Program helps companies turn great ideas into great jobs," Taft says. "By building upon the federal research and development funding awarded to these companies, we are helping them to create new products and jobs for Ohioans."The Third Frontier Commission awarded the grants through a competitive process.
