Johnson, Halleck Discuss Shale Impact on Columbiana County
Tuesday, April 10, 2012LISBON, Ohio – Inside and outside the Columbiana County Courthouse, Commissioner Mike Halleck told a visiting U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, he sees signs of the oil and gas industry’s impact on the country.
“It’s the real deal,” Halleck said as he and Johnson, R-6, sat in his office in the courthouse. “All you have to do is look out this window throughout the day, and there’s all types of trucks and equipment and things that I don’t know what they do -- but I know they’re related. We’re really excited.”
None of Kasich’s Favorites Still in GOP Presidential Race
Monday, April 09, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Gov. John Kasich deflected the opportunity Sunday to endorse Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, telling Meet the Press moderator David Gregory, “Everybody I either endorsed or was for dropped out or didn't run.”
During an Easter appearance on the NBC program, Kasich predicted that Ohio will be as “tight as a tick” as “it always is” for presidential contests.
State Denies Tax Exemption for Covelli Centre

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Sammarone Administration will pursue two tracks – one legal, the other legislative – to secure tax-exempt status for the Covelli Centre.
The Ohio Department of Taxation issued a final determination dated March 22 that the arena, owned by the city, and adjacent properties do not qualify because it is operated as a for-profit entity and managed by a for-profit enterprise. Thus it denied Youngstown’s request for an exemption.

Schiavoni Bill Would Govern Sweepstakes Devices
Thursday, March 29, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sweepstakes terminal devices in Ohio would be licensed and regulated under legislation introduced Wednesday by state Sen. Joe Schiavoni.
Unlike gambling activities and skill-based amusement machines, which are regulated under Ohio law, sweepstakes operations at Internet cafes are not regulated. State Reps. Rep. Nan Baker, R-16 Westlake, and Marlene Anielski, R-17 Walton Hills, introduced similar legislation in the Ohio House of Representatives.
