Eastern Gateway Holds Shale Jobs Information Session
Thursday, April 05, 2012WARREN, Ohio – Tracee Joltes stood before more than 100 in Packard Music Hall Wednesday to explain how a ShaleNET grant can fund their preparation for entry-level jobs in the Utica and Marcellus shale plays.
Joltes, assistant director of workforce outreach at Eastern Gateway Community College, related how the community college has educated others at its main campus in Steubenville, most of them quickly hired upon graduation, and is looking to replicate that success on its campus here.
ESOP Conference April 30
Thursday, April 05, 2012KENT, Ohio -- The 26th Annual Ohio Employee Ownership Conference is scheduled for April 30. The keynote speaker is Joseph Blasi, of the Robert J. Beyster Professorship of Employee Ownership School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University.
The conference will be held at the Akron/Fairlawn Hilton in Akron. The theme is "Employee Ownership: A Better Way of Doing Business.
Tyler History Center Gets Gifts Totaling $750,000
Wednesday, April 04, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society received three major foundation gifts totaling $750,000 to support its renovation of the Harry Burt/Ross Radio Building on West Federal Street into the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, and areas of the museum will be named in recognition of the gifts.
Builders, Students Gain from Mentoring
Monday, April 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania and Youngstown State University wrapped up the third annual estimating competition over the weekend and industry leaders are pleased with the benefits the competition affords the students.
“Our students are very enthusiastic about it,” said Carol Lamb, associate professor at Youngstown State. “They realize that it gets them networking and they get that contact with industry mentors that they need.”
Warren, Eastern Gateway Partner on Shale Training
Friday, March 30, 2012WARREN, Ohio – The city of Warren wants to use money it's received through the sale of mineral leases to help its residents secure the proper training required to land a job in the oil and gas industry.
Mayor Doug Franklin announced Thursday the city would reimburse Warren residents for drug screening tests, background checks, and physical exams should they be accepted into a new training program sponsored by Eastern Gateway Community College.
