Shale, Shale, More Shale at Chamber Economic Forecast
Friday, February 10, 2012BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Local spinoff activity from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays is already substantial -- from giving a boost to businesses that struggled to stay afloat not long ago to landowners depositing newly found wealth from oil and gas leases into area banks -- and appears poised just to grow, members of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber learned Thursday.
ODNR Permits More Chesapeake Wells
Wednesday, February 08, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources approved a permit Feb. 2 from Chesapeake Exploration, a subsidiary of Chesapeake Energy, to drill a new well for natural gas production at the Janie Trust property on Hazel Run Road in Columbiana County's Washington Township.
The permit is Chesapeake's 10th horizontal drilling permit in Columbiana and the second on the Janie Trust property.
Standard & Poor's Downgrades Chesapeake
Wednesday, February 08, 2012NEW YORK -- Standard & Poor's Rating Services has downgraded its outlook to negative on Chesapeake Energy Corp., citing depressed natural gas prices and the heavy debt the company carries.
Chesapeake, the second-largest producer of natural gas in the United States, is actively drilling in the Utica shale, a liquids-rich repository of natural gas locked deep underneath eastern Ohio. The company controls the most mineral leases in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio.
Chesapeake Sues to Stop Lease Terminations

Range, Consol Up Shale Resource Potential

Fort Worth-based Range Resources Corp. reported Monday that aggressive exploration in the Marcellus Shale helped lift the company's resource potential during 2011.
