Hoteliers Fear Higher Bed Tax Will Empty Rooms
Wednesday, February 29, 2012CANFIELD, Ohio – The 2% hike in the bed tax Mahoning County commissioners are expected to pass this morning would cost the county revenues, not increase them, three hoteliers said Tuesday.
Passage of the tax, to take effect April 1 and run three years, would also make it the highest bed tax in Ohio at 14.75%, they said, and higher than the bed taxes in Columbus and New York City. Columbus charges 12.75%, New York City 14.54%, they said.

January Traffic Takes Off at Akron-Canton Airport
Friday, February 24, 2012GREEN, Ohio -- Passenger traffic in January at the Akron-Canton Airport set another all-time record, with 126,000 passengers traveling to and from the airport during the month. The total was fueled by an 18% increase in traffic aboard AirTran Airways.
Strong growth aboard Frontier Airlines, Delta Air Lines and US Airways also contributed to the January increase, which is up 12.6% over January 2011 and the 10th consecutive record-breaking month for the airport.
