Sales of Cruze Rise 10%, General Motors Just 1%
Friday, March 02, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze climbed above 20,000 in February, helping General Motors Co. to a modest lift for the month.
GM reported it sold 209,306 new cars and trucks last month, a 1.1% increase, as more consumers steered toward fuel-efficient passenger cars such as the Cruze. Meanwhile, Chrysler Group LLC saw its sales rise 40% compared the same period last year, while Ford witnessed a 14% increase in its business.
Japanese automakers Toyota and Honda both reported a 12% improvement in sales.

Community Health Systems Acquires Illinois Hospital
Friday, March 02, 2012FRANKLIN, Tenn.-- Community Health Systems Inc., which owns ValleyCare Health System in Youngstown, Ohio, announced Thursday it has acquired substantially all of the assets of MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Ill.
Located approximately 20 miles south of Chicago, the 330-bed hospital becomes the ninth CHS-affiliated hospital in Illinois and the third one serving communities in the greater Chicago region.

GenOn to Close Niles, New Castle Power Plants
Thursday, March 01, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – GenOn Energy Inc. announced Wednesday that it will close its Niles power plant in June and its New Castle, Pa., power plant in April 2015. The Houston-based company said six other plants will close over the next three years; all but one are coal-fired.
“Forecasted returns on investments necessary to comply with environmental regulations are insufficient,” GenOn said in a statement that accompanied its 2011 earnings report.
