Westinghouse CEO to Speak at Grove City College
Thursday, March 29, 2012GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College will host Dr. Ardis S. Candris, president and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Co., as the featured speaker for the 2012 Albert A. Hopeman Jr. Memorial Lecture in Science, Engineering and Mathematics. The April 12 presentation is free and open to the public.
His presentation, titled “Nuclear Energy: Is there a future after Fukushima?,” will begin at 7 p.m. in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on the campus.
Easter Sales Expected to Exceed $16 Billion
Monday, March 26, 2012WASHINGTON -- Even high prices at the pump can’t keep the Easter Bunny away this year. Americans are expected to shell out an average of $145.28 on everything from apparel and candy to food and decorations this Easter, up from $131.04 last year.
Total spending is expected to reach $16.8 billion, according to a spending survey conducted by BIGinsight on behalf of the National Retail Federation.
Appalachia Director to Address Columbiana Chamber Breakfast
Wednesday, March 21, 2012COLUMBIANA, Ohio -- The Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Networking Breakfast March 30. The event will be held at Das Dutch Haus here.
Jason Wilson, director of the Ohio Governor's Office of Appalachia, will be the featured speaker.
The breakfast will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and reservations are required. The cost is $10 for chamber members and $15 for nonmembers. For more information, call 330 482 3822.

'Our Valley Cooks' Features Food Network's Mauro
Tuesday, March 20, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO -- Meridian Community Care will present its annual Our Valley Cooks event March 24 at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman. More than 50 exhibitors from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania will highlight their unique products.
Cooking demonstrations will be given by local businesses and Jeff Mauro of the Food Network, this year’s celebrity chef. Mauro is known for raising sandwich making to an art form, with the ability to turn any sandwich into a meal and any meal into a sandwich.
Skeptic Magazine Editor to Deliver YSU Shipka Lecture
Monday, March 19, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Michael Shermer, founder and editor of Skeptic magazine and executive director of the Skeptics Society, will speak at Youngstown State University April 5. His presentation, part of the Shipka Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.
The presentation is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
