Youngstown Rotary Marks 100 Years of Service

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Rotary International motto, “Service above Self,” defines the organization, and this week members of the Rotary Club of Youngstown are reflecting on a century of their club's legacy of service.

The Youngstown Rotary, which spawned other chapters and was instrumental in establishing the Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown, the local chapters of the Better Business Bureau and the chamber of commerce, celebrates its 100 years tonight with the opening of an exhibit at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center. The Rotary chapter was formed Feb. 1, 1915.

National Authority Renews CFMV Accreditation

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Community Foundations National Standards Board has again accredited the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, CFMV announced today.

The Community Foundations National Standards Board is a national authority that reviews community foundations for operational excellence, according to the news release. CFMV is the only community foundation in the Mahoning Valley with national standards accreditation.

Hilcorp Invests $400M in Utica Play's Northern Tier

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Co. sees opportunity where others don’t as it plans to drill more natural gas wells this year in the northern tier of the Utica shale in Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

“We’re optimistic that oil and gas development will remain successful in this part of the Utica,” says Justin Furnace, spokesman for Hilcorp. “In 2014 alone, we spent $400 million in development of the play.”

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- With its involvement in the disposition of the Wells Building complete, the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp. turns its attention to the Armed Forces/State Theatre property.

The properties on West Federal Street are the last two parcels of the 81 the downtown CIC was charged with improving two decades ago, facilities supervisor Lynn Popa said.

Farmers National Banc Reports 4Q Income of $2.15M

CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., holding company of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $2.15 million, or 12 cents a share, and full-year 2014 net income of $8.97 million, or 48 cents a share, 15.2% better than 2013.

This compares to third-quarter net income of $2.28 million, or six cents a share, and fourth-quarter 2013 net income of $2.30 million, or 12 cents a share. Full-year 2013 net income was $7.78 million, or 41 cents a share.

Kent State Announces New Dean for Trumbull Campus

WARREN, Ohio -- Lance Grahn, a history professor at the  University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark., has been named dean and chief administrative officer at Kent State University at Trumbull. Grahn, who was hired following a national search, will begin his duties July 1.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Reps. Bill Johnson and Tim Ryan are praising yesterday’s passage by the House of Representatives of House Resolution 351, Johnson’s legislation expediting the approval process of liquefied natural gas export permits. The legislation passed the House on a 277-133 vote.

Davis Y Offers LiveStrong for Adult Cancer Survivors

BOARDMAN, Ohio -- The Davis Family YMCA is looking for adult cancer survivors to participate in the "LiveStrong at the YMCA" program

LiveStrong at the YMCA is a 12-week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have become "de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease," says Beth Scheller, the YMCA's vice president of strategic advancement.

The program is offered without cost to the participants and runs from Feb. 2 to April 22, meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
